Tulsi Ghatतुलसी घाट

Just north of Assi, the ghat where Goswami Tulsidas lived his last years and died in 1623, having given north India the Ramcharitmanas in the people's Awadhi. His house above the steps keeps his wooden sandals and a Hanuman shrine. Each Kartik the Nag Nathaiya leela he began is still staged from these steps, and the Dhrupad Mela fills the ghat with music every spring.
