Man Mandir Ghatमान मंदिर घाट
Raja Man Singh of Amber, Akbar's general, built the palace above this ghat around 1600; its carved stone balcony is among the oldest work on the riverfront. In 1737 his descendant Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur added an observatory on the roof, one of his five Jantar Mantars, and its masonry instruments for reading the sun and stars are still in place, two minutes south of Dashashwamedh.

Tips
- The observatory is listed by the ASI as the Man Singh Observatory; it is rarely crowded.
- Look for the palace's northern balcony from the river; it gives the ghat its profile.
How to reach
- 3.1 km from Varanasi Junction (Cantt) station in a straight line
- 22.1 km from Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport in a straight line
- 0.4 km from Godowlia crossing, where cars stop for the old city in a straight line
Straight-line distances; by road through the lanes it is further.
