Kedar Ghatकेदार घाट

Red-and-white stripes climbing from the water mark the most South Indian corner of Kashi. The Gauri Kedareshwar temple above the steps is the presiding shrine of the Kedar Khand, the southern of the city's three sacred divisions, and its rough, self-manifested linga is honoured as Kashi's own Kedarnath. Tamil, Telugu and Bengali families have lived in these lanes for generations, and the steps fill early with bathers.
