Good to know

  • This is a living ashram, not a spectacle: come for darshan of the dhuni and samadhis, keep quiet and follow the sevaks' directions.
  • About 1 km north of Assi Ghat; combine it with Lolark Kund, the other focus of Lolark Shashthi, a short walk south.
  • On the janmotsav and Lolark Shashthi a fair with hundreds of stalls fills the road outside and darshan is by queue.

Baba Keenaram, its first peethadheeshwar (1620–1771 in the sthal's own record), rekindled the dhuni here and blessed the Kreem Kund, the sacred tank beside it. His samadhi is here, and the eleventh peethadheeshwar, Baba Siddharth Gautam Ram, has led the seat since 1978.

In the sthal's own words, Aghor is a simple, natural state of consciousness, and Kreem Kund is where the Kailashi and Girnari lineages meet, joining Shaiva, Vaishnava and Shakta paths. Ash from the dhuni is the only prasad. Baba Keenaram's Viveksar is held as the core text of Aghor.
