Pedestrian-friendly streets, new sewers and drainage, and organised vending zones around the Buddhist site were inaugurated by the Prime Minister; food-street hubs at Sarnath and Maidagin followed. On 25 July 2026 the 'Ancient Buddhist Site, Sarnath' was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, India's 45th, and construction within 100 m of the heritage zone is now barred.

- વારાણસી જંક્શન (કૅન્ટ) સ્ટેશનથી સીધી રેખામાં 7 કિમી
- લાલ બહાદુર શાસ્ત્રી હવાઈમથકથી સીધી રેખામાં 18.4 કિમી
- ગોદૌલિયા ચોક, જ્યાં જૂના શહેર માટે વાહનો અટકે છેથી સીધી રેખામાં 8.1 કિમી
આ સીધી રેખાનાં અંતર છે; ગલીઓમાંથી રસ્તા માર્ગે અંતર વધુ છે.
