The end of the Ramadan fast. Thousands gather for morning prayers at Lat Sarai Eidgah and the city's mosques, and then the lanes of Madanpura, Dalmandi and Nai Sadak fill with sewaiyan, new clothes and visits between neighbours of every faith.

Reaching Varanasi
Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (Babatpur) is 25 km north-west of the city, with direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Hyderabad; a prepaid taxi to the ghats takes about an hour.
Varanasi Junction (Cantt) is the main station; Banaras (Manduadih) and Kashi stations also serve the city. The Vande Bharat from Delhi takes about 8 hours; Cantt to Godowlia is 20–30 minutes by auto.
