Harishchandra Ghatहरिश्चंद्र घाट
Kashi's second cremation ground, on the southern riverfront between Kedar and Assi ghats, and by some accounts the older of the two. It carries the legend of Raja Harishchandra, the king who kept his word through the loss of kingdom, family and freedom, and served here as keeper of the burning ground until the gods relented. An electric crematorium was added in the 1980s; wood pyres continue beside it.

- Please do not photograph the rites or the mourners; the river view from a passing boat is the respectful way to see it.
- Ten minutes' walk north from Assi Ghat, or a short ride from the Sonarpura crossing.
